Bharatpol: Amit Shah Launches India’s Real-Time International Police Portal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate Bharatpol, a groundbreaking digital platform designed for seamless real-time international police collaboration, on Tuesday in New Delhi. The platform, developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) — India’s National Central Bureau for Interpol — aims to make international cooperation in criminal investigations more efficient and paperless.

Bharatpol: A Game-Changer for International Police Coordination

What is Bharatpol?
Bharatpol is a centralized portal that facilitates real-time sharing of information and international police assistance requests. It is accessible to state police forces, union territories, and central law enforcement agencies, streamlining processes such as issuing Red Notices, obtaining extradition or deportation information, and sharing criminal intelligence.

Why It’s Needed:
The increasing prevalence of transnational crimes such as cybercrime, financial fraud, human trafficking, and organized crime necessitates faster, more coordinated responses. Previously, communications between the CBI, Interpol Liaison Officers (ILOs), and Unit Officers (UOs) relied heavily on time-consuming letters, emails, and faxes.

How Bharatpol Will Revolutionize Law Enforcement

Paperless Operations:
Bharatpol eliminates delays caused by traditional methods, enabling paperless communication for requests and responses through a secure portal.

Efficiency in Handling Requests:
In 2023, the CBI’s Global Operation Centre handled over 17,000 international assistance requests and facilitated the issuance of 100 Red Notices, the highest ever in a year. Bharatpol aims to further enhance this capacity.

Streamlined Interpol Notices:
The platform simplifies the issuance and processing of various Interpol notices:

Red Notice: To locate and provisionally arrest fugitives.

Yellow Notice: For missing persons.

Blue Notice: To gather information on a person’s identity or activities.

Black Notice: To identify unknown bodies.

Green Notice: To warn about criminal activities.

Orange Notice: To alert about serious threats.

Purple Notice: To share criminal methods and devices.

Enhanced Collaboration:
By connecting all stakeholders, including CBI, state police forces, and UOs, Bharatpol ensures that criminal investigations involving international cooperation are handled efficiently and transparently.

CBI’s Vision and Impact

The platform was conceptualized under the leadership of CBI Director Praveen Sood, with the aim of addressing delays caused by back-and-forth communications. Bharatpol is expected to enhance the capabilities of field-level officers, empowering them with faster access to international assistance tools.

The Growing Need for Bharatpol

The rise in transnational crimes demands innovative solutions for law enforcement agencies. Bharatpol is poised to be a transformative tool, strengthening India’s fight against global criminal networks and improving its law enforcement infrastructure.

By offering cutting-edge capabilities, Bharatpol positions India as a leader in leveraging technology for international law enforcement collaboration.
