Telangana Govt Junior Colleges to Implement Corporate Model for Higher Admissions

Hyderabad: In a strategic move to boost enrollments in government junior colleges (GJCs) by 60%, the Telangana Intermediate Education Department has decided to adopt practices followed by corporate and private colleges. Officers have been directed to actively engage with feeder schools, interact with students, headmasters, and parents, and promote the benefits of free quality education available at GJCs.

Corporate-Style Enrollment Strategy

Private and corporate junior colleges often begin their admissions process before Class X exams, using public relations officers (PROs), teachers, and staff to attract students. This aggressive outreach has contributed to declining enrollments in government colleges. To counter this trend, the Telangana government has set a target of 1.30 lakh enrollments for 2025, up from 83,000 in 2024.

Intermediate Education Director Krishna Aditya recently outlined the strategy to retain students and reduce dropout rates. A district-wise academic monitoring cell has been established, consisting of three academic monitoring officers, including junior lecturers and librarians. Their primary role is to ensure maximum enrollments from nearby government feeder schools.

Focus on Academic Performance & Retention

Apart from increasing admissions, academic monitoring officers have been assigned the responsibility of improving pass percentages in upcoming intermediate exams. Key responsibilities include:

  • Tracking past exam performance to identify weak areas
  • Monitoring absenteeism to ensure regular attendance
  • Enforcing study hours in both morning and evening sessions

Regular reports on these activities will be submitted to the Intermediate Education Department headquarters for evaluation.

Government’s Commitment to Quality Education

By adopting this corporate-style enrollment drive, the Telangana government aims to bridge the gap between government and private junior colleges, ensuring that students benefit from free, high-quality education. This initiative is expected to strengthen public trust in GJCs and enhance student success rates in the long run.
